Additional Factory-Reconditioned DEWALT DW718R Heavy-Duty 15 Amp 12-Inch Dual Bevel Sliding Compound Miter Saw Information

It’s hard to imagine anything DeWalt could do to improve this saw. As with it little siblings, the DW716 and DW715, the feature at the top of our list is the fantastic miter detent override, allowing you to compensate for a world that just isn’t square all the time. Normally, setting a 44.7-degree miter would leave you with a fight on your hands with regular detents, because of that annoying tendency saws have to snap in when you get too close. But with the integrated override, you can cut as close to a detent as you need to without slipping in. The 718 miters 60 degrees to the left and 50 degrees to the right, with 10 zero-play detents, and all dead-on accurate. Of course, we like the miter cam lever, too, a great improvement over the old turnscrew knob.

The tall sliding fence has a machined support that promises nothing but the ultimate long-term accuracy. We like the extra height because it supports crown molding beautifully, even up to 6-5/8 inches nested, and base molding up to 6-1/2 inches vertically. Need a bevel cut? The fence slides neatly out of the way for bevels, anywhere from 0 to 48 degrees both left and right. (If you’re in the market for this much power but just a single bevel, check out the DeWalt715 saw. A close second to this saw, without the slide, is available in the DW716 model.)

There are absolutely no complaints from this motor no matter what you’re cross-cutting, as it’s drawing 15 beefy amps and has a max rpm of 3,600, slicing through 2-by oak like it’s paper. What we found extremely impressive is the saw’s ability to crosscut a 2 x 16 just by adding an auxiliary base to bring the stock up to level with the back fence. At a 45-degree miter, you’re still able to cross-cut a 2 x 12.

If portability is a factor, understand that the slide function adds a little weight, so this saw tips the scales at 53 pounds, nine pounds more than the next model down from this. Still, easy-on-the-body handles built into the base offer a nice, wide, secure grip. This is more saw than most do-it-yourselfers need, but it’s a contractor’s dream. -- Kris Jensen-Van Heste

What Customers Say About Factory-Reconditioned DEWALT DW718R Heavy-Duty 15 Amp 12-Inch Dual Bevel Sliding Compound Miter Saw:

I'd been wanting one of these since I started building furniture and a playhouse. And it takes full kerf blades. I'm not sure I'm happy with the ease of unlocking the vertical miter "tilt". Okay, it comes in a plain brown box, and there was one smudge on the right side of the plastic cover. The opening behind the blade is miniscule. But it was like $150 cheaper than new. My 10" Delta couldn't cut through the 2x6 without flipping and hoping, even with a laser. When this refurb went on sale we snatched it up. Slides smooth.

Cuts straight, Belt drive that can be replaced. The miter guide can be easily adjusted if it ever drifts. It may just take time to get used to.I moved the Irwin laser from the 10" Delta, and yes it fits, but the laser line is about 1/16 - 1/8" to the left of the true cut edge.Unfortunately, the sawdust removal stinks. Even hooking up a vacuum to the rear doesn't help much.It is heavy, and takes up a bit of room, I wouldn't say it was easily portable without a rolling stand.

I'm not reviewing the saw, but I wanted to pass along a comment on my experience.I just received my "factory-reconditioned" DW718 today, but was shocked when it arrived without Dewalt packaging. I sent it back within the hour. When I opened up the box, I noted that it poorly packed, and the saw was dirty and slightly abused--I'm not even sure that it included all the parts. I concluded that the saw sent to me was just "used" rather than "reconditioned". I can't understand how this happened, as I was purchasing from Amazon rather than an Amazon-marketplace seller. While Amazon issued the return without too many questions, I think I'll find a Dewalt authorized reseller for my next purchase.

This is an excellent saw, especially when coulpled with the stand. I is VERY heavy so attach a strap to put over your head o pick it up; I was old that grabbing it by the handle cold throw it out of square. So far it seems fine though.

I have no regrets with this purchase. After baulking for about 2 months because of the price, I finally pulled the trigger after seeing the reconditioned option (I saved about 200 bucks). I got this saw about a month ago and have only used it 2-3 times since. As always, no issues at all with Amazon. The only negative I've seen so far is that the base of the unit looks like it was rusted at one point and it looks like someone painted over a used beatup base with silver paint. The rest of the unit looks new and it seems to work fine. Also, I purchased the light over the lazer which was easy to install. Not only does the light illuminate the work area, the line shadow from the light is very accurate.

Both applications have been great. Works as if it were new.very satisfied with the saw. Have been using it to cut moulding and some framing. Would highly recommend purchasing a recondition one in lieu of a newer, more espensive one. I would purchase again from this vendor.
