I'd been wanting one of these since I started building furniture and a playhouse. And it takes full kerf blades. I'm not sure I'm happy with the ease of unlocking the vertical miter "tilt". Okay, it comes in a plain brown box, and there was one smudge on the right side of the plastic cover. The opening behind the blade is miniscule. But it was like $150 cheaper than new. My 10" Delta couldn't cut through the 2x6 without flipping and hoping, even with a laser. When this refurb went on sale we snatched it up. Slides smooth.
Cuts straight, Belt drive that can be replaced. The miter guide can be easily adjusted if it ever drifts. It may just take time to get used to.I moved the Irwin laser from the 10" Delta, and yes it fits, but the laser line is about 1/16 - 1/8" to the left of the true cut edge.Unfortunately, the sawdust removal stinks. Even hooking up a vacuum to the rear doesn't help much.It is heavy, and takes up a bit of room, I wouldn't say it was easily portable without a rolling stand.
I'm not reviewing the saw, but I wanted to pass along a comment on my experience.I just received my "factory-reconditioned" DW718 today, but was shocked when it arrived without Dewalt packaging. I sent it back within the hour. When I opened up the box, I noted that it poorly packed, and the saw was dirty and slightly abused--I'm not even sure that it included all the parts. I concluded that the saw sent to me was just "used" rather than "reconditioned". I can't understand how this happened, as I was purchasing from Amazon rather than an Amazon-marketplace seller. While Amazon issued the return without too many questions, I think I'll find a Dewalt authorized reseller for my next purchase.
This is an excellent saw, especially when coulpled with the stand. I is VERY heavy so attach a strap to put over your head o pick it up; I was old that grabbing it by the handle cold throw it out of square. So far it seems fine though.
I have no regrets with this purchase. After baulking for about 2 months because of the price, I finally pulled the trigger after seeing the reconditioned option (I saved about 200 bucks). I got this saw about a month ago and have only used it 2-3 times since. As always, no issues at all with Amazon. The only negative I've seen so far is that the base of the unit looks like it was rusted at one point and it looks like someone painted over a used beatup base with silver paint. The rest of the unit looks new and it seems to work fine. Also, I purchased the light over the lazer which was easy to install. Not only does the light illuminate the work area, the line shadow from the light is very accurate.
Both applications have been great. Works as if it were new.very satisfied with the saw. Have been using it to cut moulding and some framing. Would highly recommend purchasing a recondition one in lieu of a newer, more espensive one. I would purchase again from this vendor.
